Once, my photography teacher said something I have never forgotten:

“Learn every technical rule. Then break it consciously.”

For some reason, the sentence stayed with me.

For more than a decade, it has accompanied my personal work, perhaps because it carries a certain freedom, but also a certain responsibility. Moving against tradition only becomes meaningful once one has tried to reflect what tradition asks of the image.

I have often wondered what photography may reveal when it is led away from its familiar direction. What becomes visible when precision begins to loosen, when light is allowed to disturb the surface, when the image no longer serves merely as evidence of what has been there. An image does not always need to explain itself. Sometimes its meaning lives precisely in what remains uncertain, in what appears only partially, or changes with the person looking at it. This openness is essential to my work.

I believe that perfection and control can easily silence the most delicate compass in creative work: intuition. I try to become an empty vessel in order to follow what unfolds through the process. At times, it feels as though the work already carries its own direction, and my task is simply to remain open enough to recognise it and follow it without questioning it.

The same is true when I create visual worlds. I am drawn to shifting what is already visible, only slightly, until another layer begins to appear.
